Doors

Doors can blend in or be a striking feature in a house.  All of the interior first floor doors had been removed during the original demolition on the house, but based on the upstairs doors, they were a four panel, outdated traditional style, possibly original.  We needed doors for closets, bathrooms, the laundry room, etc.  In keeping with the Shaker style of the kitchen, we opted for a five-panel Shaker style door – very modern look and one I just love.  We chose solid core wood doors, for better sound attenuation and a higher quality door.  We’re very happy with them.  Along with the trim, we painted the doors white and chose black hardware.  Our designer tried to talk us into painting the doors black but we opted to stick with white.

We decided we wanted the office to have a door – which turned out to be a very good choice this year with both of us working from home.  With the doorway at 4ft wide, I wanted glass French doors.  Since the front and back exterior doors are four panel glass doors, we wanted something similar for the office – still in a Shaker style.  This proved difficult to find but we were able to find some eventually and are quite happy with them.  These ones will get painted black to match the exterior doors (see future post). Doors were installed throughout the year as we worked from room to room.

We are Amy & Shawn and this is the home renovation story of the flood house we bought in Houston, TX. After binging on too many episodes of Fixer-Upper and since we weren't finding any already remodeled houses we liked, we took on the ambitious project of renovating a house flooded during Hurricane Harvey. This blog will chronicle the whole process and the projects we undertake - and probably some funny stories along the way.
