Open Door Policy

We stayed in Houston for Thanksgiving and our primary activity for the day wasn’t roasting a turkey.  It was removing all the old doors.  There are a surprising number of doors in the master suite, between the closets and bathroom, plus the hallway and two other bedroom doors. They all came out to be replaced with new solid-core doors which will match the downstairs five panel shaker-style doors.  In the meantime, no doors! Free rein for the cat.

As our good deed for Thanksgiving, we took the seven doors (in their frames) over to Habitat for Humanity, hopefully they will get good use out of them. Unfortunately, we realized later that we probably should have kept the frame and hardware for the bifold doors in the hallway closet, as that’s a separate item when ordering new ones… Oh well, Johnson Hardware makes some good solid hardware we can install for a more robust door. New doors have just been ordered, looking forward to their arrival!

We are Amy & Shawn and this is the home renovation story of the flood house we bought in Houston, TX. After binging on too many episodes of Fixer-Upper and since we weren't finding any already remodeled houses we liked, we took on the ambitious project of renovating a house flooded during Hurricane Harvey. This blog will chronicle the whole process and the projects we undertake - and probably some funny stories along the way.
